Titles Were Expected To Change At WWE Summerslam

News on what led to Cena and Khali retaining their belts at the PPV.
While both John Cena and The Great Khali retained their belts at WWE Summerslam, F4WOnline.com reports that the original plans called for both belts to change hands.
Up until the Friday before the event, WWE’s plan called for Randy Orton to defeat Cena for the belt. Vince McMahon made the change due to the belief that Orton had gotten over well in the angle — an over Orton meant a Cena victory would be viewed as a big deal by the fans.
WWE appears to be continuing the Cena vs. Orton feud, so it’s possible, but not confirmed, that Orton will ultimately win the belt.
The Khali retention, via the DQ finish, was booked in order to set up the stipulation match main-event at WWE Unforgiven. At press time, it was unclear if Batista was set to win the belt at that match.
The original plan had long been for Batista to win the belt, only for Edge to defeat him and defend the belt against The Undertaker at WrestleMania. There has recently been some talk of having Undertaker defeat a reigning champion Khali at Survivor Series; he would face Edge as champion in the WrestleMania match.
