ECW Main-Event Revealed, Spirit Squad Breakup Update

July 27th, 2006 by Brian Cantor

WWE news & notes

– WWE will continue its trend of featuring interbrand ECW main-events on Tuesday, when Big Show defends his ECW Championship against Batista.

The match was announced during the Canadian airing of this week’s SmackDown. It should come as no surprise to wrestling fans, since the interbrand main-events have consistently been posting solid ratings.

WWE previously announced that CM Punk will debut and Kurt Angle will return on the telecast.

– Post-Summerslam house show lineups feature John Cena vs. Edge, Kane vs. Randy Orton and Triple H vs. Ken Doane. Although the “subject to change” cards are not always accurate when it comes to spoiling storylines, Ken Doane is indeed expected to receive a singles push when the Spirit Squad breaks up. WWE initially wanted to push him as a top heel in ECW, but since his fiancee Mickie James is on RAW, he’s requested not to be moved.
